Thousands of demonstrators gathered in front of the Department of Justice to protest the Biden administrations lack of action during the Jayland Walker case.

Walker was murdered by the Akron Police department who shot him in the back dozens of times and may have even planted a weapon.

However, despite the evidence against them a secret grand jury held at a undisclosed location and led by Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost, who has a record of questionable legal efforts aimed at disenfranchising Black people, claimed that the jury came back with a no-bill meaning that none of the 6 officers who murdered Jayland Walker or the department and city that hid the officer’s public information from it’s own citizens will face any type of consequences.

The jurors heard five days of testimony and then deliberated, with Yost holding a press conference via Zoom at 3:30 p.m. Monday to announce the decision. The jury consisted of a majority of non black citizens with only 2 of the 7 jurors being Black.

The Biden administration publicly condemned the killing but took no legal action at the federal level to force the state of Ohio or the city of Akron to do anything.

Now on the 1 year anniversary of Walker’s murder, grassroots activist continue call out the Biden admin for what they see as a clear betrayal.

“Don’t say you have our backs when you won’t even prosecute those harming innocent civilians.” said Tatianna Hardey a activist from Akron that decided to join the protest after hearing that local activist would be able to ride on busses provided by the The Freedom BLOC, in conjunction with DeJournett Consulting, Akron NAACPand Akron Urban League, which are all organizations tied to the democratic party.

I asked if it makes a difference to Ms. Hadey that these organizations providing the travel expenses are associated with fundraising for the Democratic party?

“It does. It makes it all the more insulting because it’s like there trying to have a photo shoot with us protesting their own lack of inaction. On top of that these groups have been fundraising for the democrats since I was a child but they haven’t brought back any tangibles to the Black community” she said.

The Walker family is aided by U.S. Rep. Emilia Strong Sykes, D-Akron who is calling upon the DOJ to open an investigation into the Akron Police department’s conduct and specifically to punish those responsible for Jayland Walker’s murder.

Demetrius Travis Sr., a cousin of Jayland Walker, said in a text message: “Disappointment cannot began to express how I feel about this decision…Whatever happens because of this decision is not on the Walker family, it is due to a continuing disregard for the lives of black and brown people in the United States of America.”

The Biden administration has not publicly commented on the demonstration.
