The United States House of Representatives voted to impeach Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorka following accusations of allowing open borders and an unprecedented number of illegals in the country.

The Republican-led House of representatives voted 214-213 against Mayorka, which marks the first time in 148 years that a cabinet secretary has actually been impeached.

Of course the impeachment will most likely be rejected by the narrowly held Democrat majority senate but a political statement has certainly been made. One that frames the Republican party as the party squarely against illegal migration.

The party alleges that Mayorka, a Cuban-born migrant whom was appointed by US President Joe Biden as secretary of homeland security in 2021, refused to implement laws that would’ve prevented the migrant crisis including “presiding over a reckless abandonment of border security and immigration enforcement” and “releasing hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens into the interior of the United States” among other violations.

“Since this secretary refuses to do the job that the Senate confirmed him to do, the House must act”. Said US House speaker Mike Johnson.

The Senate is set to receive the articles of impeachment from the House after resuming its session on February 26.
