Okay Disney is a company for nazis and Marvel isn’t much better. We don’t recommend supporting their company though supporting individual talent (actors, directors, production staff) is your personal choice.

That being said, gotta give credit where credit is due and man, Anthony Mackie doesn’t disappoint in another banger.

Captain America Brave: New World is the latest installment in the Marvel franchise staring fan favorite Anthony Mackie, Carl Lumbly, Harrison Ford, Giancario Esposito, Hannah John Kamen, a honestly surprising returning debut from Tim Blake Nelson (something we haven’t seen since the Edward Norton Incredible Hulk rendition and even Sebastian Stan returns to get Cap’s back.

That’s right I already inadvertently spoiled a portion of the movie for you noobs out there so leave your hate comments below, I’m a weeb so i’m used to the ridicule.

Back to the review.

Direted by Julius Onah and written by Rob Edwards, Malcolm Spellman, Dalan Musson, “Brave New World fits into the Marvel cinematic franchise in a way no film since Deadpool Wolverine has managed to do. Intertwining multiple story lines from Marvel’s shows and movies following the infinity war, it calls upon viewers to re watch or discover smaller series, that we originally thought could be unrelated, including the Samuel L. Jackson led “Secret Empire” series.

With stunning performances from Mackie and Ford (which has come to be expected from the two) and a ridiculously strong supporting role from Giancario Esposito (Breaking Bad, need I say more?) the movie really never lets you unwind, with dazzling battle sequences reminiscent of Black Panther, and special effects to the quality of a Battle Angle Alita, and a pretty good story to boot, there’s not much left to be desired here.

The film centers around Mackie (Falcon) now accepted and regarded as Captain America and how he chooses to deescalate situations with awesome power with as few casualties as possible. Its honestly freaking refreshing, to say the least. Rarely do we get superhero flicks with a conflicting protagonist (except for Black Adam, on god) but we get to see Mackie in real time as he struggles to deal with his own mortality and the need to continue to wear the uniform despite not having any super soldier serum like the former captain America’s.

Very meta way of discussing white privileged, just a observation. Isiah got the super soldier serum through a experiment like Steve but was shut away from the world and had to live his life as a regular negro. And in the movie he even is framed for a crime and forced to spend time in jail, just like his comic origin. Meanwhile Steve Rodgers, got to live out his life following being unfrozen. Rodgers got to keep his powers and his freedom. Isaiah Bradley did not.

Now Mackie, a man with no powers must find a way to clear the first Captain America’s name, and fight off a potential threat from inside shield itself.

The script speaks to veterans in specific, having Bradley and Cap both experiencing different forms of pain, some psychological and some physical from the burden of fighting for their nation.

All in all Mackie hasn’t decided to leave Marvel yet, so there’s one more reason to see this film besides all of the Black talent involved.

By the way, Julius Onah is Nigerian and did a damn good job exploring some of the difficulties of the Freedmen Black Americans. While Ryan Cooglar is Black American (kinda) and did a fantastic job showing the wonders of Africa. Maybe there really isn’t a diaspora war as much as its a realignment.

Congratulations to the cast and production crew on their success with this film. As of today “Brave New World” already has broken $150 million in its opening weekend alone.

Not bad for a flagship character that Marvel has neglected for over 3 years. But are we really surprised?

Mackie has been that guy, but will he continue to lend his abilities to a company that has underpaid him for the better half of a decade?

Only time (or Marvel’s accountants in a death battle with RDJ and Kevin Feige) will tell.
