The Black community calls on the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) to prove itself by introducing legislation to make false reporting also known as ‘swatting’ a federal crime subject to hate crime enhancements if the victim of circumstance is of Freedmen (Black American formerly enslaved) lineage.
ATF (Alcohol Tobacco Firearms Agency) does investigations on American citizens often without clear reasons, but based off of baseless accusations. They’re known for breaking into Black people’s home’s when they’re sleeping and attacking them.
The ATF has attacked thousands of Black civilians since its inception, often harassing Black gun owners, activist, professionals and academics. This is also a common practice for local police departments.
If the ATF wants to get violent, then the Black community will tear them apart. But we demand our politicians hold the ATF as well as other government agencies harming Black people with false accusations be held accountable.
The CBC should craft legislation with the maximum punishment in mind for those in the ATF committing to a operation on a clearly question tip and aiming guns at Black civilians, just to find out it was a false call.
The CBC must suggest that anyone who commits the act of swatting should face 10 years behind bars at the minimum and be subject to a hate crime enhancement should law enforcement find probable cause that they the caller intended to harm a Black person in specific.
Draft proposals should be sent to both Minority leader Hakeem Jeffries, and to Speaker Mike Johnson who is the father of a Black man, but that’s not the only reason. If the Democrats and more importantly Mr. Jeffries can’t support and vow to pass this legislation, then the bill should be brought to Black Republicans to see if they can make something happen.
This is a warning to the Black political class. Either they start making something happen for the grassroots or we will make sure that they will be unemployed. The Black community would rather have non-Black people passing legislation on our behalf than traitors refusing to accommodate us.
