Judge Kelvin Wells has a habit of violating citizens’ rights who happen to be unlucky enough to find themselves in his court room. And it should be no surprise that Sipho Bennett, a young Black man accused of murder, has been wrongfully denied bond and completely mistreated in his ongoing court process.

In this trial alone, Judge Wells has already denied a motion for immunity from prosecution, something typically asked for by witnesses scared for their protection and most likely asked for by one of the people asked to come to trial because they witnessed two white men attacking Sipho Bennett.

The wayward magistrate has a history of violating civilians’ rights.

Just in 2022 Judge Wells issued back to back rulings in Teresita Vega’s divorce that taken together make no sense. He granted a woman a divorce and then several days later threatened to arrest the same woman for not knowing where she had moved during the divorce, seemingly contradicting his original ruling.

The appeals courts agreed. They reversed Judge Wells, poor decision making shortly afterwards.

But look at the damage this man was able to cause due to his lack of understanding the law.

In another decision which was overturned on appeal, Judge Wells issued a protective order without giving the subject of the order a chance to present evidence.

He’s known for ignoring policies, forcing people into unfavorable situations, and was also appointed by Ron DeSantis who has his own track record of anti-Black racism.

Regardless of the outcome of Sipho Bennett’s trial, he must seek a retrial or appeal on the grounds of this judge’s previous history of questionable rulings and violations of the law.
