Let’s keep it real: Hollywood has a problem.

Black British actors are flooding American screens, snatching roles that should go to Black American talent, roles rooted in our culture, our struggle, our stories.

Meanwhile, where’s their entertainment industry?

Where’s their Atlanta, their Black Hollywood? Nowhere. Because they haven’t built one.

From Idris Elba playing a Baltimore gangster in The Wire to Daniel Kaluuya as Fred Hampton, Black British actors keep stepping into American narratives, soaking up opportunities while Black American actors fight for scraps.

And why? Because Hollywood loves their “neutral” accents and sees them as “less threatening” than homegrown Black talent. It’s a twisted game of respectability politics, and we’re losing.

Black Americans built Atlanta into a cultural powerhouse, from Tyler Perry’s studios to the dominance of hip-hop and Black-led productions. Meanwhile, the UK film industry still treats Black actors like outsiders unless they’re playing American roles.

That’s not hustle, that’s exploitation.

Enough is enough. If Black British actors want to thrive, they should invest in their own industry instead of cannibalizing ours. We fought for these opportunities. We earned them. It’s time Hollywood stopped treating our culture as a costume for outsiders to wear.

Step up or step back.
