Black nerds have developed a sad obsession with mainstream media, constantly begging for scraps from white-owned companies like Marvel and DC, entities that have never prioritized Black representation authentically.

Instead of channeling their passion and dollars into supporting Black independent creators who center Black narratives without compromise, too many Black fans settle for forced, half-hearted inclusion.

These studios don’t value Black audiences, they tolerate them as an afterthought, tossing them token characters or pandering storylines designed to check boxes rather than celebrate Black culture. Yet, despite this neglect, Black fans remain loyal, hoping for validation from corporations that view them as a demographic to exploit, not a community to uplift.

The solution is simple but requires discipline: abandon the white studios entirely. Stop giving money to franchises that refuse to put Black stories first.

True empowerment comes from investing exclusively in Black creators, buying their comics, watching their films, and amplifying their voices without distraction. Every dollar spent on Marvel or DC is a dollar withheld from Black artists who deserve full support.

Until Black nerds break their addiction to mainstream validation and redirect their energy toward independent Black media, nothing will change. Liberation isn’t found in begging for crumbs, it’s built by owning the table.
